The first thing you notice about the BMW XM Label Red is the massive grille. This hybrid SUV doesn’t try to blend in, and that’s part of why it gets so much attention, good and bad.

And with a starting price of around R4,200,000, shoppers often choose other options they feel deliver more at that level.
4) Bentley Bentayga Speed
The Bentley Bentayga Speed, Bentley’s most opulent and powerful SUV proves that luxury and power can live in the same package.
It delivers everything you expect from a Bentley, hand-stitched leather, open-pore wood, and a smooth, “waftability” at high speed that is quite unique.
Its 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine produces 626 horsepower and 900 Nm. That’s enough for a 0 – 100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 306 km/h.
A new Bentayga Speed costs up to R6,160,000. Lightly used models typically go for around R5,600,000.
3) Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
Porsche builds its cars with the philosophy that every vehicle must deliver a transcendent driving experience and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is a loud, proud example of that philosophy.
Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 650 horsepower and 850 Nm, sending it from 0–100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
It also holds the current Nürburgring SUV lap record, making it arguably the fastest SUV, something Porsche fans love to bring up.
What makes the Turbo GT special is its dual personality. In the city, it’s calm, quiet, and easy to live with. Take it to a track, and it turns into a weapon. Few SUVs can switch roles this quickly or this well.

2) Ferrari Purosangue
Although if you ask Ferrari, they’ll deny building an SUV and tell you they built an FUV, which is short for a Ferrari Utility Vehicle. But the rest of the world knows what it is.
Where the Cayenne Turbo GT might be the fastest, the Purosangue competes on something deeper: the driving experience.
The name Purosangue means “thoroughbred,” and it lives up to it. This is a one-of-a-kind machine built for enthusiasts who care more about feel than practicality, and who definitely aren’t worried about price.
It uses a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that produces 715 horsepower and 716 Nm. That launches it from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.
A new Purosangue costs over R12,995,000. Because of its rarity, used models have even climbed above R15 million.
1) Lamborghini Urus (SE / Performante)
The Lamborghini Urus didn’t tiptoe into the performance SUV world. It arrived loud, dramatic, and in style, in a way that only Lamborghinis can do.
The Performante version pushes things even further by adding more power and reducing weight through carbon-fibre parts.
Its twin-turbo V8 produces 657 horsepower and 850 Nm. That power sends it from 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and helps it reach a top speed of 306 km/h.
Numbers like these explain why the Urus is a poster child for performance SUVs.
A new Urus Performante starts at around R5,075,000. Some used models actually cost more, because buyers try to take advantage of the long wait times, ordering a new one can mean waiting nearly a year for delivery.
